About Us

We exist to empower marginalized communities within our school, and to increase the visibility and importance of their work

We are a group of visual art teachers who share a common goal of doing better for our alternative curriculum students.  We are based in Omaha NE, and have the mission of sharing our philosophy and approach to teaching adapted art.

We are not experts, but we love to share ideas and collaborate with teachers and artists across the country.  We are sharing with you our experiences, and our successes.  We will continue to update this site to include lessons, and ideas for adaptation.

We would love to hear from you.

Guest Artist: Therman Statom

We have had the privilege of working with a guest artist, Therman Statom, for many of our projects.  Therman joined our team as a guest artist but ended up being an integral  part in developing our mission and program.  He has helped us to understand that students are capable of more than we think.  He has shown us how to challenge students and give them the opportunity to express themselves through voice and choice.

Breaking Barriers

Therman has shown us how to help kids open up and be more comfortable.  He shows students it's okay to take a risk and make mistakes.  Additionally Therman has exposed students to new materials like glass, aluminum and concrete.  Without the help of Therman Statom we would not have developed the program we did or have given the students such unique experiences.

Community Connections

Kaneko

Kaneko has helped us work with donors and has provided an amazing space to display our students' work for an end of the year show.

Lauritzen Gardens

Lauritzen Gardens has given our students the opportunity to display their work in a public space.  These sunflowers will be on display for two years!

NAEA National Convention 2022

This is a recording of our presentation for the National Art Education Association 2022 National Convention.  Watch this video to learn more about us, how we developed our program and what our mission is.
